Digital SLR's - learn how to shoot video                        contact us

A few models in the current range of Digital SLR cameras record impressive high rez, cinema-style images straight out of the box, however, is the technical superiority of these cameras the only quality you'll need to be able to produce superb video images?

The answer is maybe not, because the fundamentals of good cinematography always apply, regardless of the format or camera model used. It may be the right camera for your production, however to ultimately get the best results, you will need to know how to work with its strengths and weaknesses. This is very much a work in progress.

We will take this camera and use the skills of the cinematographer to achieve its full potential.

Small group workshops

This is a two-day workshop structured to build on any existing experience and learn how to apply them to cameras like the Canon 5D Mk11, Canon 7D or Nikon D90. You'll be guided through the advantages and steered around the limitations of the format to take your shooting to a level that compliments the superb quality of the DSLR camera.

You will learn about

  • the minimum add-ons you will need on a small budget
  • the lenses you may need
  • shooting with the constraints of the form factor
  • the tricks to focussing quickly and accurately
  • shallow depth of field and why it is not always the holy grail
  • working with a zoom lens
  • recording decent sound
  • handheld shooting techniques
